ASA 104 – BAREBOAT CRUISING

Bareboat Cruising 104 course is a three day, two night, live aboard sailing adventure in the coastal areas surrounding the Hawaiian Islands. The schedule typically involves spending the 1st day sailing to a destination such as Kaneohe Bay or Pokai Bay on Oahu or Lono Harbor on Molokai. Then a written exam after breakfast on the second day followed by sailing maneuvers. Then taking the third day to sail back to the harbor. Essentially, all sailing all the time. This is an excellent way to become comfortable being the skipper of a sloop-rigged, auxiliary powered keelboat. Students will learn cruise planning including provisioning, weather, and plotting a course using a chart. Galley, electrical and auxiliary engine systems will be reviewed and operated. Coastal navigation including the use and operation of on board GPS will allow the skipper to accurately and safely manuver along a predetermined course to the anchorage and back. Health & safety and emergency procedures are discussed and practiced.

Learning to sail while enjoying the beauty of Hawaii and our destinations is the ultimate objective.

At the end of this course participants will be awarded the ASA Bareboat Cruising 104 certificate recognized by boat charter companies worldwide.

Please note: Pre-requisite for this course is ASA 101 and 103 or equivalent. If you have previous sailing experience, you may challenge the ASA 101 and 103 standards. Please see the ASA 101 and 103 challenge courses for details.
